Flexible coaxial cable
The most common type of coaxial cable is the flexible coaxial cable. It has fine wires and a braided design. It is often not shielded and is prone to signal leaks. It has a polymer-wrapped inner conductor and an outer jacket that serves as an extra layer of protection. It is commonly used in household audio and video equipment.
Unlike other types of speaker wire, coaxial speaker cables have two separate conductors that are shielded. Coax cables are able to deliver higher-quality sound than speaker wires. These cables are also much shorter.
Triaxial coax cable
If you are planning to use Triaxial coax cable for speakers, there are some things you should know. First, let us look at the transfer impedance. RG58 coax cable
Compared to conventional speaker wire, RG58 coaxial speaker cable offers more length for the same cost. However, the lower inner core wire size means that it is not as durable and may not produce the same quality of sound. On the other hand, RG11 coax is much thinner and meets all of your audio and video needs without sacrificing the quality of your video signal. Moreover, it should cost you less than $1 a foot.
The RG58 coax cable has a characteristic impedance of 50 or 52 ohms, making it a good choice for low-power signal connections. Its name comes from the “RG” unit indicator in the Joint Electronics Type Designation System (JETAS) of the U.S. military. It comes in a variety of versions and core materials, including solid or braided wire. Additionally, it can be terminated with BNC, N, TNC, and UHF connectors.
RG58
RG58 Coaxial Speaker Cable is a good choice for connecting two speakers at a distance. It is thinner than RG6 and has 22 AWG wire. This type of cable is best used for connections less than 10 feet apart. Sound quality will be reduced though, so it is not recommended for longer distances.
In order to connect two speakers with a coax cable, you will need to cut the shielding. This will expose the copper wire. You can use quality wire strippers to cut through the translucent layer. You may also use other methods to connect the coax to the speakers, although these methods may reduce the flexibility of the cable.
If you choose to use a coax cable, you should measure the distance from your amplifier to the speakers and add a few feet to the length. After that, you can start stripping the insulation off of the coax cable. You must be careful not to damage the cable while stripping.
